Contrary to what one or two people have suggested, I am not eager to die, or
cause too many additional health problems for myself. But please understand
that I believe that life has a beginning, life has an end; and yes, it’s true
we mourn and we cry when our loved ones depart for the next world. There will come a time when we too must tread
the path that our loved ones have already taken. Granted we should WITHIN
REASON try to wait a bit longer before taking it, but that time will come. This solid personal belief of mine was reinforced
rather dramatically when I suffered those four heart attacks in March 2023
My motivation for posting photos of food labels, and passing comments is to
show what I have learned, and perhaps educate others. The Smoked Salmon I
commented upon recently was a good example.
Quite innocently I thought it was a good thing when clearly, I was not. Interestingly several people remarked
privately that they too thought it was a healthy alternative. Curiously, what discouraged them from
commenting publicly was all the “knowledgeable people” criticizing me and offering
suggestions. In the words of one person,
it looked as though I “shoved my little finger in a hornet’s nest”. On the flipside I learned that Sockeye Salmon
cooks rather well in the air fryer, and it doesn’t smell as strongly as other
fish. So, one weekend when I am feeling brave, I may try a new culinary endeavor.
In conclusion, if you enjoy my postings and without being critical can offer CONSTRUCTIVE suggestions
I welcome it. The Shrimp Scampi that
someone suggested was an interesting one, alas it also proved that I am not the
only person who needs to pay more attention to the food labels. However, when it comes to food preparation, please
understand that for the foreseeable future, my home is a basement converted into
a one bedroom apartment with a small kitchenette. I have a fridge, a couple of rings, a microwave,
and a pair of air fryers to cook with. It’s not perfect, but it’s actually very
quiet little home, and a comfortable place to live only 5 to 10 minutes from both
the hospital, and also where I work.
Some
very public thoughts about my endeavors at healthy eating, the photos of food
labels, I keep posting, and also my opinions about long life. Since my health crisis first started in late
January (there was a prelude before the heart attacks), that expression “life
is a journey” has taken on a whole new meaning for me. Quite literally EVERY SINGLE DAY I have learned
something new. This sudden learning curve
has covered anything from finances, to psychology, to diet, and of course
cardiovascular disease. I have
discovered false friends, and how foolish I was for tolerating bullies who claimed
to be friends. There was even one clown who seemed to want to play a game of “my
heart attack was worse than yours”. While
at the same time others who I never really thought much about have turned out
to be pretty good friends, with much more sincere hearts than I previously
thought.
